What is the Public Housing Program?
The Public Housing Program is designed to house low income persons and/or families in a decent, safe, and affordable dwelling. These units are available in Casselton, Kindred, and West Fargo, ND in Cass County, and are available in Ashley, ND in McIntosh County.
How do I know if I qualify for the Public Housing Program?
To qualify, your household income (including everyone who will be living with you) cannot exceed the Low (80%) income for the Housing Authority to which you are applying (select a county below to see the income limits). In addition, a criminal background check will be required.
How do I apply for a Public Housing unit?
After filling out an application your name will be placed on the Public Housing Waiting List. When your name comes near the top of this list, the Housing Authority will mail you a letter with instructions on what to do next. Criminal background checks and a landlord reference will be required to confirm eligibility. Once approved, the rent will be determined by calculating 30% of your monthly adjusted income. Tenants are required to sign an initial twelve month lease with the Housing Authority.
